Romeo and Juliet By William Shakespeare "Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast". Macbeth by William Shakespeare Directed by Jon Ciccarelli "There 's daggers in men's smiles". August 7-20, 1997
Closing out the 1997 Shakespeare in the Parks season, HSC produced a rather blood soaked version of the Scottish Play. Using another of HSC's favorite devices of indeterminate settings or time periods, this production had a bit of "road warrior" meets medieval Scotland. Rather suggestive than practical, these elements lent to a timeless feel, props other than swords were dispensed with and a pantomime style was used to denote the use of items in activities. Full on sword work was employed with most of the cast. Fight choreography was provided courtesy of Monica Russell. As with its predecessor Romeo and Juliet, this production both toured outdoor locations and performed at the Producer's Club Theatre. This production went on to win the Fitch award for Best Thematic Interpretation of a published work. An award given NYC area productions judging all aspects of acting and stagework.
