In 2003, HSC has continued its expansion to new physical venues and into new creative territories. The year began with an in-school showcase featuring 4 works of Edgar Allan Poe. This showcase for students featured various contents on Poe's life while dramatizing its the works in question. Our first show of the 2003 Shakespeare Festival was marked by split indoor/outdoor run with Taming of the Shrew and was an inaugural show for a new main venue - The Hackensack Cultural Arts Center. Our summer season expanded our repertoire by further delving in the Shakespeare's History plays. June offered, the bar wench comedy disguised as a stuffy history play Henry IV, Part 1, with the larger than life character as its center - Falstaff. In July, we followed this up with it's history sequel, Henry V. Continuing the story of young Prince Hal as he becomes himself the larger than life hero as Henry V. This show brought a new venue into our tour, the community of West Milford, NJ and the grounds of the Historic Long Pond Iron Works. Rounding out the summer, HSC took on a title hardly done anywhere in the NYC area - Shakespeare's first and most gory tragedy Titus Andronicus. Finally, just in time for the Halloween season, we produced an indoor tour of Dracula, based on the Bram Stoker novel and adapted by Steven Dietz. This indoor tour marked a sort of return to a "new" venue, the Loew's Jersey Theatre. In 2002 The Loew's, a movie palace located in the center of Jersey City, had its theater open for use for live and film productions. Prior to 2002, only the large main lobby had been used for productions and film shoots, Hudson Shakespeare had appeared in Lowe's in 1993 with a production of Driving Miss Daisy and a showcase of scenes from Romeo and Juliet in 1998. HSC partnered with Friends of the Loew's to bring Dracula to this historic and architecturally stunning building.
