The Couples of Shakespeare

Shakespeare showcase. 

Scenes featuring the bard's famous couples.

Previously, Hudson Shakespeare had been contacted or asked after performances about the possibility of doing either educational workshops or classroom presentations for area schools.  Usually, time was lacking during the off season for such a venture, however, during the summer of 1999, HSC contracted with a few area youth organizations and schools to organize its first every showcase presentation.  Carried on the recent success of the movie Shakespeare in Love, the company presented a series of 6 scenes that showcased 6 famous Shakespeare couplings (3 comic and 3 dramatic) with narration during the performance with question and answering afterwards.  The scenes featured were:

 The murder scene from Macbeth with Macbeth and Lady Macbeth

The "Nunnery" scene from Hamlet, with Hamlet and Ophelia

The Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet, featuring the title characters

The meeting of Petruchio and Katherine from Taming of the Shrew

The Forester scene from As You Like It featuring Rosalind and Orlando

Exerpts from Much Ado About Nothing, featuring Benedick and Beatrice
