| A Lover's Complaint A Lover's Complaint first appeared as part of the publication of Shakespeare's sonnets in 1609. A 'complaint' poem followed most sonnet sequences of the day and made a commentary on love. The poem was never considered one of Shakespeare's better efforts and by some was not considered to have been by him. However, general consensus is that it may be an early effort.
