Located at 39 Broadway, the Arts Center is the premier venue for artistic and cultural programs in the city of Hackensack. The center is owned and managed by the Hackensack Recreation and Cultural Department and puts on a varied calendar of artistic and family entertainment throughout the year. Along with featuring shows with Hudson Shakespeare, the center plays host to several local area and regional acts seeking a venue for their acts with productions ranging from musical acts to poetry readings to historical reenactments. The center also produces its own program of shows with their regular comedy nights and an annual children's show in December. The Arts Center building itself is something of cultural and community landmark. At over 150 years old, it first served as the Reformed Lutheran church for the then local German population in the 19th century. In more recent decades the building served as a town library. After standing vacant for a time, it was recently renovated and now boasts a state of the art lighting and sound system and a commitment to creating an artistic presence for the citizens of Hackensack and of greater Bergen County. See below for driving and parking directions and other park information.
