Located at 94 Washington St on the first floor of Hoboken's historic City Hall building, the courtroom serves during the day as the city's main court facility.  Built in 1883 & designed by Francis G. Himpler, the building has an impressive facade with several classic detailings.  In 1911, the building was enlarged with extra wings and added a third floor, that among other storage needs served as an armory during World War I.  The basement meeting room also contains a plaque commemorating it as the embarkation point for  WWI troops heading over seas.  Since 1996, the courtroom has served as a main venue for several of Hudson Shakespeare's indoor shows.  With the cooperation of the Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs, HSC began using the space, utilizing its usual function as the city's courtroom for a series of courtroom dramas, beginning with Nuts by Tom Topor and followed up by Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie and the American classic Inherit the Wind in 1998.  More recently, HSC has utilized the large gallery seating area for a series of theater-in-the round productions with Macbeth, A Christmas Carol and Flowers for Algernon
