| In 2002, HSC expanded further into Hudson County by bringing its summer calendar to Union City. Originally known as West Hoboken, Union City received its name fairly recently and is currently the site of the largest Cuban population outside of the island nation. Ellsworth Park, located between 23rd and 24th Sts. and Palisade Avenue and flanked by New York Avenue on an opposite side, is park dedicated to expanding neighborhood and artistic participation in Union City. One of the more interesting features of the park as one walks through, you can see the history of the area unfold before your eyes. Dotting the parks are several war and civic memorials dating back to 1918. HSC premiered our June 2002 production of Merchant of Venice at Ellsworth Park in cooperation with the Union City Department of Parks and Recreation and the Office of Commission Ruggiero. Performance area is in the center of the park, above the steps.
